Preparing and conducting large scale rural and urban household surveys:

Background:   Despite India’s rapid growth, at least 30% of the population still lives under the poverty line. Understanding the conditions in which poor people live, and what interventions could be undertaken to help them, requires collecting detailed information on socio-economic conditions of these households. Field-based research is becoming an key component of modern research and NGOs recognize the importance of collecting quality information on their beneficiaries.

Objectives: The objective of this course is to teach researchers, students and NGOs how to design questionnaires on socio-economic conditions of households and other issues of importance; how to train a team of surveyors to conduct quality surveys and how to monitor the quality of data collection and of data entry.
