Workshop on Health Insurance product design and hedging mechanisms

Background:   Health insurance products cover the risk of falling ill, the expenditure on treatment and the consequent loss earnings. While designing these products, we need to factor in several parameters like the incidence of ill health, the total population covered; the probability of the incidence etc and the products have to be actuarially priced, especially if the product is targeted towards the bottom of the economic pyramid. While the insured has to use insurance policy to protect against the risk exposure, the insurer has to hedge his exposure through other means.

Objectives:  This two day programme is organized by IFMR for providing a hands-on experience to the participants in designing health insurance products and risk hedging mechanisms.

Target audience: Community organisations running insurance, policy makers, donor agencies, commercial health insurance industry, banks and micro finance institutions, health economists and academicians.
